Watch: Passengers fight AMA taskforce for seizing driver’s keys at Achimota

-

Passengers aboard a 207 bus (trotro) came to the defence of their driver when members of the AMA taskforce seized his car keys for allowing someone board the vehicle at Achimota old station.

According to the passengers, the taskforce officials were wrong because neither the driver nor the conductor (mate) called out for passengers when they got to the bus stop.

But the task force officials argued that the driver shouldn’t have allowed anyone board the bus since he’s aware of the rules.

Since the opening of the Achimota bus terminal 10 years ago, a directive was given that buses shouldn’t load at the old station anymore.

Commuters are expected to go to the new terminal to board buses to their various destinations, but they have complained that buses stay too long at the terminal before moving, making them late to wherever they are going to.

Also, commuters say getting a bus to the terminal is not easy as most buses heading there refuse to pick them.

As such, many stay at the old station to board vehicles to their various destinations but on various occasions, the AMA taskforce comes around to prevent the buses from loading and arrest those who flout the rules.

The passengers in the recent incident defied taskforce personnel’s order to get off the bus even when the latter got another bus to take them to their destination while they seized the one they were travelling in.

They questioned the taskforce members if they had heard the mate calling out for passengers to join the bus while demanding they show them the person who boarded the bus.

The passengers were of the view, this was a planned attempt by the taskforce to take money from the innocent driver because other buses were loading at the bus stop at the time.
