Footage has captured the moment the Ghana international lost his temper after an opponent kicked a ball in his face
Only days after marking his debut for Persib Bandung with a goal, Michael Essien made headlines for all the wrong reasons on Saturday when he lost his temper during a friendly and chased down an opponent.
The Black Stars legend, clearly infuriated after deeming that Bali United’s Yabes Roni deliberarely kicked the ball at him, saw red and chased the striker. Essien was ultimately calmed down by his teammates, but as this footage shows, it wasn’t before he’s already got his hands on the terrified attacker.
Roni was later dismissed for his petulant act, while the Ghana great was not sent off by the match official.
It remains to be seen whether there will be any repercussions for Essien, who came on as a substitute and sent a free kick wide as Persib fell to a 2-1 defeat, although there can be no doubt that the rampaging former Chelsea man certainly lived up to his ‘Bison’ nickname!
The 34-year-old joined Persib last month after his contract with Greek heavyweights Panathinaikos came to an end. He scored on his debut in midweek-the 7-0 friendly victory over Parsika Kawarang-ahead of the imminent start of the Indonesian league season.
Michael Essien: Quality is permanent. Age be a problem.
