General Manager of West African Football Academy (WAFA), George Ofosu Hene, has raised doubts about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
His comments follow the national team’s disappointing performance after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Ghana ended up at the bottom of Group F after six qualifying matches, with only three points.
Despite recent back-to-back victories over Mali and the Central African Republic, which have revived hopes for World Cup qualification, Ofosu Hene remains skeptical.
“I don’t see Ghana qualifying for the 2026 World Cup tournament because we are not doing the right things. Surprises are there for everyone to see in football, sometimes you cannot do anything about it,” he told Sporty FM.
“If you cannot qualify from a group that consists of Niger for AFCON, do you think we can qualify for the World Cup?” he questioned. “Ghana will not qualify for the World Cup,” he added.
Ofosu Hene also emphasized that the future of Ghana’s football lies in rebuilding from the grassroots level. “If we want the Black Stars to get back to the top, we need to start from Under-17,” he said.
Currently sitting second in Group I, with crucial upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar next month, the Black Stars must secure solid results to stay in the hunt for World Cup qualification.
