Voters register: Police can’t stop nationwide demo – Asiedu Nketia [Audio]

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident they will carry out the nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) over the voters’ register without any interruptions.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, stated not even the Police can stop their march.

According to him, protesters have to notify the Police for the sake of security arrangements but not to ask permission.

“The Police has no authority to stop a demonstration. there is nothing in the constitution that says you have to ask permission from the police. What you need to do is to notify them so they can make security arrangement.

“But if they decide that they cannot not provide security, we can still go ahead if we want because their job is to provide security,” he stated.

General Mosquito as he is popularly known on Monday announced plans for nationwide demonstrations on September 17, 2024, over the irregularities in the 2024 voter register.

The protest follows the EC’s decline of their request for a forensic audit into the register, which the NDC has argued is not fit for the December 7 poll election.

The protesters will march to regional EC offices in all 16 regional capitals, while national executives will present a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.

In this regard, General Mosquito said the executives will present letters of notice at the various Regional Police Commands by Wednesday.
