Voters register: Dev’t partners ready to pay consultant – NDC on forensic audit [Audio]

-

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Asiedu Nketia has said they will not back down their demands for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters register.

According to him, the NDC is in talks with some development partners who are ready to pay for the services of the audit consultant.

General Mosquito as he is popularly known disclosed this on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday.

“We [NDC] are ready to find the consultant to find the loopholes in the voters register that can hamper its integrity. The security of the IT systems is not good and these issues need to be resolved before the election.

“We have engaged some development partners and they are ready to pay the consultant to work so that it restores integrity of the register to bring calm,” he said.

This comes after he announced the NDC’s nationwide demonstration on September 17th against the Electoral Commission (EC) over its refusal to commission a forensic audit of the voter register for the December 7 polls.

The NDC had earlier raised concerns that the register is unfit for purpose, arguing that without a forensic audit or thorough parliamentary investigation, the register will remain incurably defective.

However, the EC at an IPAC meeting last Friday rejected the request.

Despite the EC’s admission of errors and assurance to correct it, Mr Nketia has said the body that created the problem cannot resolve it.

“Given the EC’s admission of mistakes and errors, an independent forensic audit of the voter register will ensure transparency and confer credibility will restore trust in the EC.
