The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has countered reports suggesting low voter turnout in the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections, emphasizing a strong public engagement.
Benjamin Banor-Bio, Deputy Chair for Electoral Services, described the election as “one of the most seamless” in Ghana’s history, highlighting the impressive voter participation nationwide.
Preliminary reports from polling stations indicate significant turnout, showcasing public enthusiasm for the democratic process. While official turnout figures are yet to be confirmed, the EC assured the public that detailed data will be released once collation is complete.
The Commission attributed the high turnout to strategic measures, including an increase in polling stations, which reduced congestion and ensured a smoother process. Voters reportedly spent less than three minutes to cast their ballots, reflecting improved efficiency.
The EC praised the electorate for their active participation and commended the media for their professionalism during the elections.
It urged journalists to maintain accuracy in reporting results to avoid misinformation. The EC reiterated its commitment to transparency as the nation awaits the official results.
