The Electoral Commission (EC) has questioned the rationale behind the National Democratic Congress (NDC) call for a forensic audit of the 2024 voter register.
According to the Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bio, all the concerns raised by the NDC have been addressed, leaving a robust register for December 7.
In an interview with Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Friday, Mr Bano-Bio stated that the EC had started working on the irregularities before the NDC raised the concerns.
“During the exhibition, we were correcting all mistakes. We liaised with the District officers and a committee at the headquarters and 90% of the errors have been corrected after we detected them.
If you give us reasons and it will create a compelling results and ensure integrity of the register, why not? but the instances they have cited are all isolated cases and we have addressed all the issues. So what is the basis of the call for forensic audit?” he questioned.
Mr Bano-Bio advised that, if the NDC is not convinced the issues have been resolved, they[NDC] should present evidence of any remaining challenges.
He reiterated that the EC has nothing to hide and is committed to ensuring a credible electoral process that inspires confidence.
He added that, the final version of the voter’s register will be shared with all political parties for verification and comparison.
Meanwhile, the NDC will on Tuesday, September 17 protest at the EC’s offices nationwide to mount pressure for their call to be heeded to.
