Voter register is “sick and unfit for purpose” – Dr. Omane Boamah [Audio]

-

The Director of IT and elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has called for a comprehensive audit of Ghana’s voter register, describing it as “sick and unfit for purpose.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Friday, Dr. Boamah highlighted significant flaws discovered during a new exercise dubbed “voter profiling” by the NDC.

The exercise, aimed at assessing the current state of the voter register.

“Since we started, within a few hours, out of about 38,000 plus people profiled at the polling station level, there were about 4,000 deaths,” he revealed.

Dr Boamah emphasized that these findings indicate the Electoral Commission (EC) cannot independently identify deceased individuals on the register.

He argued that, the current method of mere exhibition of the register is insufficient to address the issue.

“It is people who will give EC the information backed with evidence,” he said.

Dr Boamah further called for a thorough audit to resolve the inaccuracies.

“You don’t need more than two weeks to audit the register, so if they want, they can use the exhibition as an excuse and technical audit at the same time.”
