The President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs (VRHC), Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, was last Tuesday retained during the election of new office holders in Ho.

Togbe Tepre Hodo, who is the Paramount Chief of Anfoega, was elected unopposed by the house.

The incumbent Vice-President, Togbe Patamia Dzekle VII, who is the Paramount Chief of Battor, also retained his position with 31 votes from the 59 chiefs who voted, beating two other contestants.

The two chiefs will serve in their capacities for another four years.

Meanwhile, three members of the house have been elected to represent the Volta Region at the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi.

They are the Paramount Chief of Abutia, Togbega Abutia Kodzo Gidi V; Paramount Chief of Gbi, Togbega Gabusu VII, and the Fiaga of Vakpo, Togbe Gbogbolulu V.

Chieftaincy disputes

In his maiden speech after his re-election, Togbe Tepre Hodo urged members of the house to work around the clock to weed out all chieftaincy disputes in the areas.

He said the voting pattern at the house was now irrelevant, and urged the members of the house to maintain a united front to work in the best interest of the region.

“We need peace and unity to develop as a region, and not chieftaincy litigations,” Togbe Tepre Hodo added.
The President of the VRHC entreated the newly elected representatives of the regional house of chiefs to work hard to lift the Volta Region to greater heights in chieftaincy matters and not just swell up the number of chiefs at the national house.
He also reminded them of their role in promoting the rich culture of the region, which was an important aspect of the identity of the people of the region.
Togbe Tepre Hodo thanked members of the house for the cordiality they accorded him during the past four years and appealed for similar working ties with them in his second term.
