The University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (UMES), USA, is set to assist Accra Technical University and other technical universities to revamp the hospitality and tourism industry in Ghana through a capacity building programme.
The assistance will commence with exchange of staff and students to tackle shortfalls in the educational sector.
A memorandum of Understanding was signed between UMES and Accra Technical University (ATU) together with other Technical universities at the Accra City Hotel on Thursday, June 8, 2018.
According to Professor Ernest P. Boger, the Chair & Professor of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, UMES, the collaboration would stimulate beneficial outcome for stakeholders.
He added that the collaboration will create the bridge to infuse standards and resources into the courses of students to grant them global operational certificates after they’ve graduated, to easily access and create jobs.
“They will earn operational certificates with global recognition in their careers” he said.
Meanwhile, some of the lecturers who were present at the workshop organised by UMES at the Accra Technical University on Monday, lauded the agreement, saying it will boost the syllabi for Ghanaian students to be at par with those abroad.
Staff of Accra Technical University are hopeful the agreement would result in the importation and acquisition of skills to boost capacity, innovation and creativity.
“We are exchanging syllabi to help boost our curriculum and give us different perspective towards delivering on our mandate”, a staff revealed.
