Two students, 8-year-old Senyefia Kpedor and Mawuena Akafia aged 9 of Pioneers International Academy in the Greater Accra Region have published a book containing facts about Ghana.
In an interview with the students said the idea emerged during a geography lesson when they realized there is no specific book on both the market and internet with clear facts about Ghana.
According to them, during their research, they realized other countries such as the USA had books and articles describing their states so they couldn’t fathom why Ghana had none.
It is with this that they challenged themselves to team up and work together to publish one for the love of their country.
Meanwhile, their supervisor who is also the Executive Director for the school, Madam Ester Dzapkasu said kids in the school are trained to become leaders to identify problems in their environment and find solutions to them.
She added that, unlike other schools, Pioneers International Academy groom their wards with no limits to their ambitions and talents.
“People tend to forget than we have to think. If a child recites multiplication table and they don’t understand it doesn’t make sense. We want our learners to make an impact and create solutions to problems.”
“I am absolutely excited to have these two learners. They are now nine and eight. They came to me saying they want to write a book. We tell them they are leaders and they have to come to us with problems. That excites me. Any child can do that and we have to harness that. I am very happy about this.” She said.
