Video+Audio: Maize farm at Nkawkaw Sports Stadium to generate revenue – Sports Authority

The decision to turn the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium into a maize farm is an innovative way to generate revenue, Eastern Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Gifty Horsu Fianoo has said.

According to her, the move is a more business-oriented strategy and an innovative way to pay the workers who weed the stadium on daily basis.

She made the comment when she reacted to an exclusive story by Adom News’ Kodwo Mensah Aboroampah about the current state of the stadium.

Constructed in the 1970’s by the erstwhile Ignatius Kutu Acheampong government, the stadium has not seen a major facelift.

The last time it was refurbished was in 2004. The facilities there had since been left to deteriorate because of the absence of a proper maintenance regime.

To explore other finance streams and keep the sporting facility in good condition, the NSA Eastern Regional Director said the only option they had was to use a portion of the land for the maize farm.

“It is not as if the entire stadium is now a maize farm; it’s just a portion to enable us pay the workers who weed the place,” she said on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday.

She indicated that they have not received any subvention and this had been making it difficult for them to get things fixed.

Madam Fianoo added that the maize farm had helped them to keep the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium in proper shape.
