The humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, LDS Charities, has donated wheelchairs to disabled people in Accra.
The wheelchairs are expected to give the disabled some respite from their suffering, foster self-reliance and provide opportunities for them to enjoy life.

At the donation ceremony which also served as a workshop to train technicians on the wheelchair setups, more than 17 physically challenged people were given customized wheelchairs to suit themselves.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnered the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and other agencies to provide the wheelchairs for the needy, regardless of race and religion.

According to the Public Affair Director of the sub-region for the Church, Madam Emelia Ahadjie, the church started the programme in 2003 and has supplied over 4,000 customized wheelchairs to disabled people.
A GHS representative, Mr Adangabe, said the event was an annual event that is meant to give some comfort to disabled people who can’t afford to live comfortable lives due to lack of proper wheelchairs.

Those who benefited from the ceremony thanked the Church for making their lives easier and comfortable by lessening their daily hustle of moving around.
“We thank the church for their donation exercise. It has really helped us and we can take charge of our lives. The wheelchairs are custom-made so we are able to move around with ease. God bless them for this initiative”, a disabled person at the event said.
