Brong Ahafo Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, says matrons and headteachers of schools that secretly cart foodstuffs meant for the feeding of boarding students will suffer.

His comments come after a security officer at the Kade Senior High School (KASSTECH), 65-year-old Mr Jacob Oscar, accused the matron of his school of allegedly stealing food items meant for students.

Speaking to host Captain Smart on Adom FM’s flagship program Dwaso Nsem last week Monday, Mr Oscar said he became suspicious of a driver who supplies foodstuff to the school so he decided to inspect his truck on one Friday.

He said on uncovering the mat at the bucket of the truck, he saw gallons of cooking oil and other foodstuffs meant for students’ feeding, packaged by the matron of the school to be taken outside the campus.

Upon querying the driver, Mr Oscar said, he claimed the school matron sent him on an errand but insisted the gallons contained gas and not cooking oil.

Also, the matron and four other staff of Danyaaseman Senior High School (SHS) in the Bekwai Municipality were last year, arrested by the BNI for allegedly stealing and selling some foodstuff belonging to the school.

Reacting to the developments, Abronye DC said some elements in the opposition NDC have planted their own people within the various second-cycle institutions to frustrate the government’s flagship programme – the Free SHS policy.

Backing his claim of sabotage against the Free SHS policy, he cited an instance where the matron of Ghana Secondary Senior High School who was allegedly caught while she was carting out of the school, food products including several boxes of sardines and tin tomatoes to go and sell outside, a case he says is however under investigation by the BNI.

We are tired of hearing news about matrons stealing food meant for SHS students. I have even been a witness to such an unfortunate incident. They do these things when schools are about to vacate or have vacated. It’s very bad. I strongly believe some persons are doing that just to frustrate the free SHS programme but we won’t allow them”, he claimed.

Let me send this strong warning to them. Those involved should stop it else they will suffer and not know peace like the snake who was cursed by God for his devilish acts”, he warned.
