The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been indicted in the 2016 Auditor General’s report for serious financial irregularities.
The report says the utility service provider paid over GH₵23 million to 13 non-existent contractors on December 31, 2015.
On Adom FM’s anti-corruption programme Fabewoso, show host Captain Smart, revealed that the irregularities occurred because there was laxity in expenditure control, flagrant disregard for financial regulations pertaining to disbursement of funds in the public sector.

He also indicated that, failure of heads of finance departments to control disbursement of funds to ensure that transactions were properly authenticated caused the overpayments.
