The Liberia Refugee Camp at Buduburam, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central region is now a den for armed robbers, Chief of Gomoa Budumburam, Nana Kojo Essel II has said.
According to him, after most of the refugees returned to Liberia, some Ghanaian criminals have taken over the camps and are terrorising residents in the area.

Nana Essel made the revelation on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Thursday following the killing of two police officers at Gomoa Budumburam, near Kasoa.
The suspects allegedly shot Sergeant Michael Gyamasi and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed, both attached to the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service at Kasoa, who were on taskforce duties on the Kasoa-Winneba highway.
The police on Wednesday, August 29, 2019 arrested three other suspects — Ibrahim Zakaria, Isaac Amissah and Dominic Commey over the incident leaving Duah on the run.

But, Nana Essel said until the camp is demolished, these criminals will not stop terrorising them.
He maintained that, the camp has outlived its usefulness and is a safe haven for criminals who have escaped police detention.
The Gomoa Budumburam chief said they are now in self-imposed curfew due to the criminality in the area.

“I can’t sleep; I’m tired of burying dead bodies. Government should just demolish the camp and use the land for something useful,” he stressed.
