Some residents at Odawna, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the Korley Klottey Municipality, are counting their losses after a fire destroyed over 15 wooden structures.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday morning, with several properties destroyed.
The affected individuals, mostly squatters, were situated along the Odawna gutter.
Distraught victims told Adom News that all their belongings have been burnt to the ground, and they are seeking support.
Mariam Alhassan tearfully shared, “This is the second time there has been a fire outbreak at our place.
“I have three children, and I don’t know where to go from here. When I went to the police station and returned, all my belongings, including my three fridges, soft drinks, and my Ghana card, were gone.”
In an interview with Adom News, ADO1 Alex King Nartey from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations Department said firefighters managed to swiftly bring the inferno under control.
He urged the public, especially those living in wooden structures, to avoid using gas cylinders and instead opt for charcoal.
“While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, it is crucial for authorities to check for illegal electrical connections to prevent similar incidents, as they pose a significant risk to our officers,” he emphasized.
