VGMA Fracas: We have failed –Tourism Minister

-

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Barbara Gyasi Oteng has attributed the fracas that marred the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday to failure on the part of the Ministry and the Organisers of the event, Charter House.

“There was a little failure on our part as the Ministry and the organisers. Prior to the event, we noticed a banter between the fans of the musicians on social media. It would have been better if we had engaged them,” she said.

Speaking on Accra-Based Starr FM, she noted that her Ministry and organisers of the event should have taken the security at the event seriously.

“I was hurt and embarrassed by the chaos and will urge fans from the camps of the two warring artistes to cease-fire but going forward, it is important measures are put in place to ensure the security of all audiences and participants,” she urged.

Chaos broke out at the music fiesta after Shatta Wale stormed the stage while Stonebwoy was announced as the winner for the ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year’ for the fifth consecutive time.
