Vetting of Mahama’s ministerial nominees begins today

-

The Appointments Committee of Parliament will vet the first set of President John Mahama’s ministerial appointments today, January 13, 2025.

This follows the receipt of an official communication from the President by the House through Speaker Alban Bagbin, notifying them of the nominations and the committee’s approval.

Through the vetting process, the committee will thoroughly examine each nominee’s qualifications and suitability for their respective roles, ensuring that only the most qualified individuals are appointed to serve in the new administration.

On January 9, 2025, the John Mahama administration officially announced the first group of ministers for Finance, Energy, and Attorney General.

Ajumako Enyan Essiam MP and Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been appointed to the Finance Ministry; Yapei Kusawgu MP, John Jinapor, for Energy; and Bolgatanga East MP, Dr. Dominic Ayine, as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Special Aide to President John Mahama, issued a statement highlighting the practical experience and expertise of the appointees.

The statement noted that with their extensive backgrounds, they are expected to play crucial roles in transforming the various sectors.

This appointment marks the first set of President Mahama’s nominations following his inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the first session of the Ninth Parliament has been suspended until Tuesday, January 21, 2025, due to the vetting process.

The suspension period will also be used to organize a four-day orientation workshop for new legislators to familiarize themselves with the rudiments and procedures of the House.
