Veteran commentator,  Joe Lartey Snr. has been laid to rest today, September 20, 2024.

He was laid in state at the forecourt of the State House in Accra for viewing and filing past as scores of mourners paid their last respects.

In attendance to honour the memory of Joe Lartey were scores of mourners including President Nana Akufo-Addo, government officials, traditional and religious leaders, among others.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie in a tribute on behalf of the state eulogised Joe Lartey as a man who was not merely a commentator.

“He was an institution in his own right,”.

Sports Writers Association of Ghana, an institution Joe Lartey served as its first President said, [He] leaves behind a legacy that has shaped the very fabric of sports journalism in Ghana and across Africa,” he mourned.

The veteran commentator died on Friday, April 26, 2024.

Mr Lartey, who brought life to Ghana’s sports through his commentary, was born on 6 June 1927 in Accra to parents he described as strict in his last interview with JoySports who were leaders of the Methodist Church at Korle Gorno.

Mr Lartey was the first President of the Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana.
