It has been revealed that former Chief of Staff under the erstwhile Mahama administration, Valerie Sawyerr is not the only person within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who is unhappy with the behavior of former President Jerry John Rawlings in the party.
The former President was a chief critic of the Mahama administration with many accusing him of being a major contributor to the defeat of President John Mahama in the 2016 elections.
The tag of corruption against President Mahama, which was subtly endorsed by the former President through statements like then NPP candidate and now President, Nana Akufo-Addo is not corrupt, members of the NDC say led to the party’s defeat.
His latest criticism of the NDC, was during an address at the 80th Ada Asafotufiami Festival, when the former President said his unflinching stance against corruption had created the false perception among some NDC faithful that he hates the party.
“When I talk, they say I don’t like NDC, no! I don’t like stealing, I don’t like disgrace so if NDC does good, I will praise them if they are bad I will say it as well. If NPP does well, I will praise them, if they do bad I will hit them on their back,” he said.
This comment led to a befitting response from the former Deputy Chief of Staff who in a widely circulated ‘love letter’ slammed the founder of the party, Jerry John Rawlings for working hard to ‘send the party into opposition’.
“They say he booms … I say he buzzes … like an agitated mosquito … looking for his next victim. Again, he heads for other Heads of State … describing their governance as riddled with corruption. Is he trying to say that his reign was unblemished or that his twin brother’s (President Akufo-Addo) reign is unsullied? Really? Who born dog … in fact … who born monkey?
“JJ oooo JJ … the great Papa JJ … the one and only Junior Jesus … the great saint who never does wrong … you are still flogging a dead horse … the NDC is in Opposition in case you have not noticed, while a living raging bull is moving around with reckless abandon destroying everything it finds in its path including the assets and citizens of this nation…,” she wrote in her epistle.
This piece which has been reproduced on several social and mainstream media has been a bone contention among the rank and file of the NDC with some party members siding with her.
Commenting on the letter on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday, Kofi Adams admitted that Valerie Sawyerr is not the only member of the party who have cause to complain about the behavior of former President Rawlings.
He claimed on the show that several persons within the NDC have come to him to complain about the way the former President conducts himself in recent times.
“People have come to me and raised issues that we don’t raise the very issues affecting Ghana any anything of this sort happens [Rawlings booms],” he said.
These complains, Kofi Adams said are fair observations of the actions of the leaders of the umbrella party.
“I believe it is a fair comment to remind the leaders in NDC that when we get opportunities, we should talk about the problems affecting the nation and not over criticize the party…,” he said.
