A retired military officer, Aaron Ohemeng, says the US-Ghana Military Co-operation Agreement is in the best interest of the state.
According to him, such cooperation’s will help enhance Ghana’s defence capability in the face of external treats in the sub-region.

His comment follows red flags raised by many including the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) about the deal generating $20 million income for the country.
They argue that, approval of the deal to create a military base by the Akufo-Addo led government is tantamount to mortgaging Ghana’s sovereignty.
The President in a rebuttal stated unequivocally that Ghana has “not offered a military base, and will not offer a military base to the United States of America.”

He said those twisting the facts in the deal are “reckless, self-seeking mischief makers” who want to create tension in the country.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Friday, Aaron Ohemeng expressed shock at the level of anxiety in the country.
He indicated that, this is not the first time Ghana has signed such a deal with the US thus the citizenry should not be apprehensive.

If anything, Mr. Ohemeng noted that, citizens should be happy the military will have modern accoutrements to combat crime in the face of increased terror attacks in Africa.
“We live in an interdependent world so we need to work together for a common good”, he stressed.
The US-based retired military officer maintained that America is not shortchanging Ghanaians in the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) signed between his country and Ghana.
Dr. Aaron Ohemeng added that, Ghana is not an island so such military co-operations are needed for security.
