US Military deal: Akufo-Addo spoke like a dictator in Middle East – Sammy Gyamfi

A communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has said the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, sounded like a Middle Eastern dictator when he addressed the nation on Thursday.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Friday, Gyamfi said the diction of the President during his address made him think he was listening to the speech of a dictator from the Middle East.
“When I was listening to the President, I felt I was listening to some dictator in the Middle East, Syria or any other Middle Eastern country…,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo has come under a barrage of attacks for reacting ‘angrily’ to criticisms against the military deal between Ghana and the USA.
In his speech, President Akufo-Addo clarified that Ghana has “not offered a military base, and will not offer a military base to the United States of America.”
According to him, no such request would even have been considered by government if any had been made by the US government.
He was rather confident that the agreement “will help enhance our defence capability, and offer an important layer of support in our common effort to protect the peace in our region.”

He, among other things, also criticized his political opponent’s reaction to the decision since its announcement.
But Sammy Gyamfi believes the President rather ‘insulted’ the intelligence of Ghanaians who have criticized the agreement.
“I never knew the President could pour such venom on people…if he doesn’t want anyone to criticize him or his decisions, he should go and be President in Syria…,” he charged.
