UPSA postpones Vice-Chancellor investiture amid potential legal dispute

-

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has postponed the investiture ceremony of its incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor.

The ceremony, originally slated for Friday, December 27, 2024, has been deferred, with the university’s registrar stating that a new date will be announced later.

“The general public is hereby informed that the investiture ceremony of Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, previously scheduled for Friday, 27th December 2024, has been postponed,” the statement read.

It further assured the public that updates on the rescheduled date would follow soon and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.

Although the official statement did not provide reasons for the postponement, reports suggest it may be linked to legal challenges.

Rashid Ibrahim, an alumnus of UPSA, has allegedly filed a court injunction to halt the ceremony, citing concerns regarding Professor Mawutor’s academic promotion.

The university has yet to comment on these allegations or the potential impact on the Vice-Chancellor’s appointment.
