Tema-based rapper, Yaa Pono, says until an artiste wins the Black Entertainment Awards (BET) in USA, he doesn’t see them to be internationally recognised.
He made this revelation in an interview with host Sister Sandy on Adom TV’s ‘Badwam Ahosepe’ show on Friday.

The BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network in America to celebrate African Americans and other American minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment.
According to Yaa Pono, as an artiste, the only thing to showcase your international recognition is the BET award hence he sees BET award-winners Sarkodie and Stonebwoy as artistes who have made it across borders to put Ghana on the map.
He told Sister Sandy that ‘apart from someone who has won a BET, I see you as an underground artiste. That is the only thing to determine your international recognition…” he said.

Asked why some critics are lambasting him for ‘failing’ in the music industry, Yaa Pono declined insisting that he was the most booked artiste in 2017 hence he believes ‘if you are not good, you will not be booked for shows. I don’t compare myself to people…” he maintained.
This year’s edition of ‘Ponobiom Live In Concert’ will take place on Saturday, March 24 at the West Hills Mall at Weija in Accra.
The organisers explained that the event will showcase performances from over 10 of the biggest Ghanaian music stars like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, King Ayisoba, Edem, Kwaw Kese, Tinny and a host of others.
