Unemployment looms as power remains in the hands of a few – Joyce Bawah Mogtari [Video]

The Special Aide to former President, John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has raised concerns about the growing unemployment crisis in Ghana, attributing it to the concentration of top positions among a select few family members and close associates of those in power.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Burning Issues show with host Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom, Mogtari expressed her worries about how these privileged connections have monopolized opportunities, leaving ordinary Ghanaians with limited access to jobs and resources.

She highlighted the broader impact of this issue on society, particularly on road safety and security.

“People are now afraid to travel at night because of the insecurity on our roads and highways. The roads are poorly lit, and their condition is deteriorating,” Mogtari stated.

“These seemingly small issues make a big difference. When the streets were safer, businesses thrived. But now, despite various efforts, nothing seems to be working.”

Additionally, Mogtari emphasized that the most pressing threat facing the country is unemployment.

She pointed out that when a few family members and close associates dominate key positions, it stifles opportunities for the rest of the population.

She referenced a recent incident where a contract of significant magnitude was awarded to the daughter of a prominent figure, questioning how ordinary Ghanaians, whose children do not have such connections, are expected to find opportunities.

“The looming threat is unemployment,” Mogtari asserted. “When just a few family members occupy top positions and a president’s daughter receives a major contract, what are the rest of us supposed to do? What about those of us whose children do not have access to the Jubilee House?”
