Communications Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), George Ayisi, has said that his outfit has no internal auditors in Wa.
His comment comes after NADMO mistakenly distributed expired food items to flood victims in Wa in the Upper West region.

According to NADMO, the expired oil had been earmarked for disposal but mistakenly got mixed up in the items selected for donation by the government.
The action by NADMO comes after the opposition National Democratic Congress executives in the region raised concerns on noticing the expired dates on the oil products given as relief items.
Cooking oil and rice were among food items distributed to flood victims in Wa and Sissala East municipalities by the Vice President, Dr Bawumia during his visit to the region on Saturday.

But Mr Ayisi blamed the unfortunate incident on the lack of internal auditors in the region.
According to him, the expired cooking oil had been isolated at a warehouse in Wa, awaiting authentication by the internal auditor, before they could be disposed of.
But unfortunately, when picking the items for distribution to the flood victims, his boys erroneously picked six expired bottles of cooking oil in addition to the items because there was no auditor to authenticate them.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, George Ayisi said NADMO will, today, begin retrieval of the expired food items and investigate the matter when need be.
“It’s unfortunate that this issue had to happen. It’s not deliberate; the public should forgive us because we don’t intend to make people ill. NADMO has no internal auditors in WA and I think that also contributed to what happened so it’s important that we get this issue of auditors fixed because it’s worrying,” he said on Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.
