The UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, is set to visit Ghana on 17th September, marking his first visit to West Africa.

The visit aims to strengthen the longstanding partnership between the UK and Ghana.

During his stay, Lord Collins will engage with key stakeholders, including government ministers, leaders in Ghana’s tech and innovation sector, and food security agencies.

He will also meet with Civil Society Organizations to discuss issues of mutual interest, such as democracy and security.

The Minister will announce significant funding initiatives, including £3.8 million in partnership with the Shell Foundation to enhance access to green energy in Ghana.

Additional funding of at least £1 million will support Ghana’s drought response, and £500,000 will be allocated for a food fortification program in northern Ghana.

Lord Collins expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “The UK and Ghana are close friends, and my visit is all about deepening our partnership for closer, stronger collaboration across various sectors, from green growth to food security.”

British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, added that Lord Collins’ visit highlights the importance of the UK-Ghana relationship to the new UK Government.
