Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has called on the Black Princesses to improve their performance ahead of 2024 Women’s U-20 World Cup.
The team, which will be making its seventh consecutive appearance in the tournament, has failed to advance beyond the group stage in each of the previous six editions.
The Black Princesses have been drawn into Group E alongside New Zealand, Japan, and Austria, and will be looking to break their curse at the World Cup.
Despite their previous performances, which have seen them win only three of their 12 matches, with their best finish being a third-place finish in the group stage in 2018, Okraku is confident that the team can do better.
“We’ve not gone beyond the group stages in the past six times we’ve been to the World Cup,” Okraku said.
“This year, our vision is clear – we want to do better than our previous performances. We believe that the technical team is well on course to deliver, and we’ve given the team all the support they need.”
The Black Princesses will move to Accra today to complete their preparations ahead of the tournament.
They will open their campaign against Austria on September 2, before taking on Japan and New Zealand.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombia from August 31 to September 22, 2024.
With Okraku’s backing and support, the Black Princesses are looking to turn their fortunes around and make a lasting impression at the tournament.
