The Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced two suspects to 80 years in prison for robbing an Okada rider and killing him in an attempt to use his body parts for money rituals.

The suspects received 40 years each for robbery and are scheduled to reappear before the court on November 28, 2024, for the murder charge.

As reported by Adom News on July 14, 2022, a 22-year-old man, Francis Mawunya, and his friend, Benjamin Acquah, hired an Okada rider from Awutu Bontrase to Awutu Mfadwen. Upon reaching a section of the road, the suspects robbed the motorcycle and killed the rider for money rituals.

The suspects killed the 18-year-old, Kwame Ogyam, took his motorcycle, and removed his body parts in an attempt to use them for money rituals, with the goal of buying lavish cars for the 2022 Awutu Awubia Festival.

On November 11, 2024, the Cape Coast Circuit Court sentenced the suspects to 40 years in prison with hard labor and set a date for their reappearance in court on November 28, 2024, for the murder charge.

After the court ruling, the father of the deceased, Kwame Darko, expressed his joy and called on parents to take better care of their children to avoid such occurrences.

Meanwhile, some family members commended the police and the judiciary for delivering justice.
