Two die after galamsey pit caves in at Dadieso

-

Two individuals have lost their lives following the collapse of a galamsey pit in the Dadieso-Kwabenakrom area of the Suaman District in the Western North Region.

The victims, identified as 20-year-old Kwadwo and 25-year-old Akwesman, were reportedly engaged in illegal mining when the pit suddenly caved in, trapping them beneath the rubble.

Efforts by fellow miners and bystanders to rescue them proved futile due to the depth of the pit and the weight of the debris.

By the time emergency responders arrived, the two had already succumbed to their injuries.

Their bodies were later retrieved and transported to the Enchi Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and further examination.

Speaking to Adom News, the Assemblyman for the Suiano Electoral Area, Otoo Stephen, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the increasing dangers associated with illegal mining in the district.

He noted that both victims were from the community, and their families are assisting the police with investigations.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are expected to intensify efforts to clamp down on illegal mining operations in the district to prevent future tragedies.
