Twifo Ati-Mokwa Education Directorate seeks support for storm-hit schools

The Twifo Ati-Mokwa Education Directorate is seeking financial and material support to re-roof schools affected by a recent heavy storm that damaged several buildings, disrupting effective teaching and learning.

The Head Teacher of Twifo Praso A & D Basic School, Emmanuel Enyinful Koomson, has called on chiefs, churches, NGOs, citizens of Twifo Ati-Mokwa both home and abroad, and corporate Ghana to assist in restoring the affected schools.

He noted that the storm destroyed three school buildings in Twifo Praso, leaving students without proper classrooms.

His appeal came after the Chief Ofori-Nti Foundation donated GH₵9,000 to help re-roof Twifo Praso A & D Basic School, one of the affected institutions.

However, two other schools—Methodist A & B Basic School and Sakora Park KG Block—are yet to receive the necessary funding for repairs.

In addition to re-roofing, Mr. Koomson emphasized the need for classroom ceiling reconstruction and the replacement of destroyed textbooks and exercise books.

Nana Kwame Ofori-Nti, founder of the Chief Ofori-Nti Foundation and an alumnus of Twifo Praso A & D Basic School, urged community leaders to mobilize resources to fix the damaged schools, stressing that government alone cannot address the issue.

He lamented that over six weeks had passed since the storm, yet the schools remained in a poor state, affecting students’ learning environment.

Alfred Akumey, the In-Charge of Finance and Administration at the Twifo Ati-Mokwa Education Directorate, received the donation on behalf of the directorate and expressed gratitude to the Chief Ofori-Nti Foundation, Daakyehene Foundation, and the Member of Parliament for their support in providing roofing sheets.

However, he highlighted that the directorate lacks the financial resources to cover other necessary building materials and labor costs.

Akumey reiterated the call for assistance, particularly for Twifo Praso Methodist A & B Basic School, and emphasized that Sakora Park KG Block requires a complete reconstruction to provide a safe learning environment for the children.
