TUC condemns attacks on public sector workers and state property destruction

-

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has expressed deep concern and outrage over recent attacks on public sector workers and the destruction of state properties by groups claiming allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement signed by Secretary General Joshua Ansah, the TUC described the incidents as unwarranted and called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action.

The union criticised the Ghana Police Service for failing to prevent these acts of vandalism, which it said occurred in the presence of police personnel.

“These acts of vandalism have stained an otherwise peaceful election and the beautiful transfer of political power,” the statement read.

They added that the damage caused will require resources that could have been directed toward addressing economic challenges.

The TUC urged the President to empower the police to arrest and prosecute perpetrators and called on Ghanaians to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy.

The union further appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from such activities, emphasising that such behaviours undermine the country’s progress and tarnish its image following the peaceful transition of power on January 7, 2025.
