Tribalism & ‘monecracy’ ruining NPP’s fortunes in Asuogyaman – Aspirant

-

One of the five candidates in the Chairmanship race of the New Patriotic Party’s constituency elections, Alhaji Adam Musah fears the fortune of NPP in the 2020 election in Asuogyaman could be affected.
Alhaji Adam as he affectionately called is the current First Vice Chairman of the party and believes some individuals are infiltrating the ranks of the party at the constituency level due to their financial strength.
“I have received countless complaints about how persons who have vested interest in the positions of the party unseated hardworking polling station executives who are not in their camp through vote buying,” he said.
These faceless individuals according to Alhaji Adam were nowhere to be found when the party needed resources to work ahead of the 2016 elections.

“I find it quite interesting that today some individuals who have no shame could mount the stage to declare their intention regarding positions in the party.
At one point we needed money, cars among other logistics which could have been given easily by those who now claim they have the party at heart. Yet these persons refused to help because they did not believe Nana Akufo-Addo could wrestle the presidential seat from Ghana’s former president, John Mahama”
He says if those at the grassroots are not happy because some individuals sponsored ‘incompetent’ persons against them at polling station level, they will surely abandon the party come 2020.
This decision he says does not auger well for the chances of NPP in Asuogyaman.
According to him, the unity of NPP is again under threat over comments generally considered as tribal.
“What has my Northern extraction got to do with my performance and leadership? We among other tribes here are considered as “foreigners” simply because of the power a clique is seeking to win. So soon has the party forgotten our hardwork and sacrifices” he asked.

One other issue that tends to irritate those at the grassroot level is the claim that Alhaji Adam does not have a strong educational background and cannot hold the Chairmanship position.
“I am shocked to the core. So where were the elite when the going got tough in 2016? In that year, I acted at Chair and ensured that NPP did well in that elections. For the first time in Asuogyaman, we closed the gap between NDC and NPP and lost by about 800 votes for presidential and a little over 1800 votes in the parliamentary race.
It will be in the interest of those at the national level to call this clique to order before it is too late,” he remarked.
Aside Alhaji Adam Musah, there are some old faces including current Second Vice Chair, Lawson Nkrampa(Lucky Boy) vying for the First Vice position.
“With limited resources we achieved remarkable results in the 2016 elections and can do better if some of us continue to push at the constituency executive level, Lucky Boy said.

A new entrant Doris Davon (Baby) from the position of Electoral Area Coordinator is hoping to become the Women Organizer for the constituency and is looking forward to up the game of women in the area.
“Women have a crucial role to play ahead of the 2020 elections and beyond. We have a long way to go in the area of organizing women. Previous Women Organizers did their best but we still have a lot to do for women to be seen at the forefront” she said.
Both Solomon Nana Ofori and Emmanuel K. Mensah (Tsikata) vying for the position of Treasurer say they have a lot to offer the party judging from their previous engagements and work done for the party.
