The Transition Team working to ensure a smooth transfer of power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formed three statutory sub-committees in line with Section 4 of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).
They are the Inauguration Sub Committee, the Government Machinery Sub Committee and the Presidency Sub Committee.
The spokesperson for the President-elect’s side of the Transition Team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, told the Daily Graphic that other committees “may yet be formed as the team deems it fit.”
He said: “Some have already been formed and some more may be added as we travel along.”
Transition teams
The Transition teams were named last Tuesday in line with the Transition Act, 2012, (Act 845) which enjoins both the incumbent President and President-elect to appoint representatives to the Transition Team within 24 hours after declaration of the presidential results.
President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s representatives on the team are the Chief of Staff, the Attorney – General and Ministers responsible for Finance, the Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs, Local Government and National Security.
It also includes the Heads of the Civil Service and Local Government Service , Secretary to the Cabinet and the National Security Coordinator.
President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, is being represented by a 10-member transition team.
They are former Chief of Staff and Co-Chair, Julius Debrah, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr Callistus Mahama, who is serving as Secretary, Dr Valerie Sawyer, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Mahama Ayariga, Goosie Tanoh, and Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
Cordiality
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the relationship between the two sides had been cordial except the issue of last-minute recruitments and payments which the President-elect’s side was unhappy about.
He said the processes leading to such last-minute appointments had not been open, and as such it called for scrutiny.
In a statement, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said at the second meeting of the Joint Transition Team yesterday (December 13, 2024), it was agreed that all ongoing significant payments, recruitments and other such activities must be submitted to the Transition Team for consideration on a case-by-case basis.
“This is to bring clarity to the status of these payments and recruitments and offer an amicable structure for satisfactorily addressing the issues involved,” the statement said and advised all public officials to comply without fail and resist any undue pressure.
