Trainee Nurses and lecturers from the Afua Kobi Nursing Training School at Tafo Nhyiaeso in Kumasi have been involved in a serious accident near Abono in the Bosomtwe district of Ashanti.
They were on an excursion to Lake Bosomtwe when their bus developed a brake problem and run into a ditch.
One of the victims who spoke to the media while receiving medical care at the Kuntanase District Hospital, said some of her colleagues sustained various degrees of injury with some in critical condition.
She said she had a waist injury.
A source at the Kuntanse district Police which confirmed the incident, noted that 42 of the victims have been rescued from the deep ditch with one person unaccounted for as at 9pm yesterday.
The source said the injured have been sent for emergency medicare at the Kuntanase District Hospital and the St. Michael’s Hospital, both in the Bosomtwe district and also at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
It noted that rescue operation involving personnel from the National Fire Service and the Police were working hard to rescue the remaining persons and also retrieve the vehicle from the ditch.
