Several stalls occupied by traders of watermelon and other perishable goods have been ravaged by fire at the Racecourse Market in Kumasi
The fire, which broke out late at night, destroyed goods worth thousands of cedis, leaving affected traders devastated.
Leader of fruit traders, Naomi Serwaah, says the intervention of fire personnel averted the wide spread of the fire.
“We cannot identify the cause of the fire, but we suspect the cold store here might be the cause because the fire started from that area,” she alleged.
The victims are calling for immediate support and improved safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
“We are calling on the authorities and NGOs to come in our aid,” Naomi pleaded.
The fire service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire outbreak.
