Titus Glover should stop tarnishing my image – Ashitey

A parliamentary aspirant in the 2015 primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema East Constituency, Benjamin Ashitey, has cautioned Daniel Titus Glover, Member of Parliament for the area, to stop tarnishing his image.
According to him, the MP who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport, has made it a habit of dragging his name into internal wrangling of the party because he was afraid to lose his seat to him.
Mr Ashitey gave the caution in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in reaction to Mr Glover’s accusations that Mr Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister was instigating party members to get him to power.
He indicated that the behaviour of the MP was affecting his good image especially in the corporate world and has therefore resolved to face off with him if he does not desist from the act.
According to him, the MP must address the issues being raised by the grassroots members instead of blaming him and the Regional Minister for the consequences of his behavior in the constituency.
“I have kept quiet for long because I wanted to respect the party and its members, but he keeps dragging my name into issues”, he stated.
Mr Ashitey added that “he prevented my appointment as MCE because he fears I will unseat him, now I am doing my private job too, he won’t leave me alone”.
He announced that no amount of frustration from Mr Glover would discourage him from contesting in the primaries and subsequently representing the party in the 2020 general elections.
The MP hopeful denied having any blood relations with the Regional Minister as alleged by the Deputy Minister explaining that the name Ashitey, was a typical Tema native name therefore, having the same surname does not necessarily mean they were related.
“The Regional Minister is not, and has never been a family member. I will not deny my family members just because of politics,” he said adding that “if that was so, then, Mr Glover would also bemy relative since he was a third cousin to Mr Ishmael Ashitey.”
He also deny any affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and said “because of politics, someone who claims to be a good Christian has become a black hole of lies, hatred and insecurity.”
