The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has cautioned vendors against operating around the recently commissioned Flower Pot Interchange in Accra.
The former Tema East Member of Parliament (MP) has vowed that no business or hawking will be allowed around and under the Interchange.
Mr. Glover sounded this message of caution on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, following the commissioning on Tuesday.
This comes on the back of a viral video which captured the Minister dismantling tables and chairs set up by hawkers who had defied prior warnings.
“It is unfortunate and sad that people will decide to sell around this beautiful project undertaken by President Akufo-Addo to reduce traffic congestion.
“During the commissioning, I warned people against mounting kiosks, containers, unauthorized structures, or selling under the interchange, but it seems some people did not take it seriously,” he said.
Mr. Glover warned that such behavior will not be tolerated and he will not relent on his quest to maintain the integrity and aesthetics of the Interchange.
“Look at what Circle has become now, and this is how it started. If we don’t act swiftly, the situation will get out of hand,” he said.
The Minister further appealed to the general public to cooperate in safeguarding the facility for long-term use.
“I have charged the police to arrest anybody who goes to sell there and face the full rigor of the law,” he added.
The Spintex-Flower Pot Interchange includes a dual carriageway viaduct and multiple ramps.
It aims to alleviate traffic congestion in key areas such as Spintex, Cantonments, East Legon, and Tema.
