Three remanded for stealing onions, electrical appliances and others at Wenchi

The Wenchi Magistrate Court presided over by His Wardship Issah Abdul Wahab has remanded three persons into police custody for stealing.

The accused persons are Adu Joel, 18, Appau Richmond aged 21 both unemployed and Patrick Boateng, a 21-year-old coconut seller.

They were charged with four counts and the charges are conspiracy to commit a crime namely stealing contrary to section 23 and 1.74( 1) of the criminal and other offences Act 29/60,

Count two of the charges stated that causing unlawful damage contrary to section 172(1)(b) of the criminal and other offences Act 29/60

Count three of the case was unlawful entry contrary to section 152 of the criminal and other offences Act 29/60.

Count four of the case was stealing contrary to section 124(1) of the criminal and other offences Act 29/60.

The facts of the case are on 31st May, 2024 at low-cost in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region the accused persons unlawfully the room of one Erica Fosua without her permission and with intend to commit a crime namely stealing.

The stolen items included; a ten inches double bed latex foam mattress valued at Gh¢ 2,800, gas cylinder valued at Gh¢150, two rice cookers also valued at Gh¢ 1000, two pillows valued GH¢140, one air fryer valued at Gh¢400.

The rest are; bread toaster also valued at GH¢300, onions valued at GH¢80, cooking oil also valued at GH¢100.

All stolen items were valued at GH¢ 5,700.00.

Police prosecutor Detective Inspector Owusu Mensah told the court that the complainant of the case Erica Fosua is a nurse and resident of low-cost in Wenchi.

He further explained to the court that on MAY 10, 2024, the complainant left her room for night duty at Wenchi Methodist Hospital.

Upon return, she detected that thieves have broken into the room by cutting the burglarproof metal guarding the window, caused damage to the sliding window glass and made away with her items.

She reported the case to the Wenchi police and while investigations into the case was ongoing one Takyi Richard, also reported that two mattress had been stolen from his room.

Upon suspicion, Richard led the Police to arrest Joel but to their surprise, some of the missing items were found in his room.

The prosecutor said Joel confessed to have stolen those items from the complainant and led police to arrest his accomplices Appau Richmond and Patrick Boateng.

Stolen items recovered from the accused persons were the double bed latex foam mattress, two electric rice cookers and a bread toaster.

The prosecutor pleaded with the court to remand the accused persons into police custody to allow for further investigation.

His plea was granted and the case has been adjourned to Thursday, August 29, 2024.
