Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has dismissed concerns over Thomas Partey losing the Black Stars captaincy.
Ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, the GFA confirmed that Jordan Ayew has been appointed as the team’s new captain.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Asante Twum stated that Partey has no issues with the decision.
“It’s not a problem for Thomas Partey that he’s no longer the Black Stars captain. It’s not about individual aspirations,” Asante Twum told Sporty FM.
Partey, who plays for Premier League side Arsenal, previously served as the deputy captain and took on the leadership role in the absence of Andre Ayew.
Ghana is set to face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for a clash with Madagascar on Monday.
The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points, level with leaders Comoros.
The four-time African champions will be aiming for crucial victories to strengthen their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
