They can fill the place, it doesn’t mean anything – Dan Botwe on NDC rally in Kumasi

-

Dan Botwe, Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, has responded to the massive turnout at the NDC’s rally in Kumasi, expressing no surprise at the crowd size.

The rally, held on Sunday, December 1, drew thousands of NDC supporters for a walk themed “Enti Asanteman aseda ni?” (translated as “Is this the thank you the people of the Ashanti Region get?”).

The event was part of the NDC’s plan to boost voter support in the Ashanti Region, where they aim to secure over 30% of votes, traditionally dominated by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Mr. Botwe said they are never complacent.

“We are never complacent. We’ve been doing rallies for a long time—even since the 4th Republic. We’ve seen large crowds before, and this is no different. Even in the Ashanti Region, despite their turnout, what were the NDC’s results in past elections?”

“They can fill that place, or even double that number, and we won’t be shocked. These are their members—why should we make a fuss about it? It doesn’t mean anything. Our strategy is working across the country.”

Mr. Botwe said the importance of focusing on parliamentary victories to ensure a smooth presidency for Dr. Bawumia.

“If we don’t win big in Parliament, Dr. Bawumia will suffer. We need to vote massively for the NPP to secure both the presidency and a strong parliamentary majority.”

The remarks show the NPP’s confidence in maintaining its dominance in the Ashanti Region while pushing for a consolidated nationwide effort in the 2024 elections.
