There will be bloodshed if… – NPP PC warns after Suhum results are on hold [Listen]

-

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, has called on the Ghana Police to intervene following the delay in the declaration of parliamentary results for the Suhum Constituency.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Mr. Asiedu Bekoe expressed concern over the situation, warning that there could be “bloodshed” if the police do not step in to cool tempers.

“If my supporters go out to jubilate and others misbehave, then there will be bloodshed. If the other side misbehaves, my supporters will also come out.”

In his view, the NPP would not sit idly while someone who has lost an election tries to intimidate them.

“Kwadwo Asante is not the owner of Suhum,” he stated.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed the declaration of results for the Suhum Constituency due to chaos at the collation center. Supporters of both candidates stormed the center, forcing officials to halt the process.

All election materials and ballot boxes have been secured at the Police Eastern South Command in Kyebi.

While the EC has not declared a winner, both the incumbent independent MP, Oboafo Kwadwo Asante, and Mr. Asiedu Bekoe are claiming victory.

However, Mr. Asiedu Bekoe noted that according to their collation, there is a vast difference between him and the incumbent MP.

He called on his supporters to remain calm while waiting for the EC to finalize the collation and announce the official results.

“The collation has not ended. After some people stormed the collation center and caused mayhem, everything was suspended” he explained.

According to Mr. Asiedu Bekoe, the NPP had scanned their pink sheets and completed their collation before leaving the situation room, which is why he had not yet joined the jubilations in town.

He criticized the sitting MP for parading himself as the elected MP despite not attending the collation center or allowing the process to be completed. “The sitting MP is misbehaving; he doesn’t own Suhum,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Bekoe also called on the EC to clarify the status of the Suhum collation and provide an update on the election’s progress.

As tensions remain high in Suhum, all eyes are now on the EC for a final decision on the outcome.
