There are too many ‘local champion’ artistes in Ghana – Rex Omar [Video]

Veteran highlife musician, Rex Omar says Ghanaian artistes are overly comfortable in Ghana and have become complacent in producing original music that crosses borders.

In his view, a number of artistes, who can’t spread their tentacles beyond Ghana, fail to admit that they are “local champions”.

“There are too many local champions in the country and when you say some of these things, people get upset,” he said in an interview with Doreen Avio on Let’s Talk Showbiz on JoyNews.

The ‘Abiba’ hitmaker was reacting to the snub experienced by Ghanaian musicians during their performances at the Zylofon Naija Invasion concert in Lagos, Nigeria.

Rex Omar stated the cold-shoulder Nigerians gave to Ghanaians must be a wakeup call for Ghanaian artistes to start delving deep into what makes authentic Ghanaian music.

“If your son is not doing well in his class and he comes home and you’re always showering and pampering him when he goes out there, then he will see the real fishes in the sea,” he added.

He also reacted to the #supportyourown campaign by some industry players for more airtime to be given to local content.
