There are no leaders at Black Stars – Sam Johnson

-

Former Ghana defender Sam Johnson has criticized the current Black Stars squad, claiming the team lacks true leadership.

His remarks follow Ghana’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The four-time African champions finished at the bottom of their qualifying group, securing just three points from six matches.

This marks the first time in two decades that the Black Stars will miss out on the AFCON, which is set to take place in Morocco in December.

Speaking on Sporty FM, the former Hearts of Oak and Fenerbahçe defender expressed his concerns about the team’s lack of leadership.

“The Black Stars have captains, but no leaders,” he stated.

Despite their AFCON setback, the Black Stars will now shift focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with crucial fixtures against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March.
