The Omanhene of Anum Traditional Area, in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, Okusiako Brempong Kumi Sasraku VIII, has appealed to the government to build a well-equipped memorial center to honour the designer of Ghana’s national flag, Theodosia Salome Okoh, her hometown at Anum.
He made the appeal during a flag hoisting ceremony to celebrate Mrs. Theodosia Salome Okoh, the designer of Ghana’s national flag and the first female President of the Ghana Hockey Federation, for her significant impact on the national development of the area.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okusiako Brempong Kumi observed that the provision of such a facility would inspire people to be responsible and contribute their quota towards national development.
Also, the Secretary for Anum Hoisting the Flag, a group who was the main architect of the celebration, Wilhelmina Mensah, said the celebration aims to help promote women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.
She bemoaned the failure of the state to erect a monument in the hometown of the late stateswoman as a remembrance of her contributions to national development.
On his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, commended the organizers for the program and called on all Anum citizens to come together to help celebrate their heroes.
