Drivers at the Kwabenya Kia station in the Ga East District of the Greater Accra Region have expressed frustration over the poor state of roads in the community.
Speaking on People’s Forum, a segment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, they revealed that repairs works on the road which started six years ago.
“The roads were not properly tarred, so about two or three years ago, they started degrading. Now, every time it rains, the station becomes impassable,” one driver lamented.
Some of the drivers have vowed not to vote in future elections, citing what they see as neglect by their elected representatives.
“Our politicians know what to do, but they won’t do it. The last time we saw our MP here was when she was campaigning for the seat. I won’t vote again because this is an unfair treatment.”
The affected stretch runs from Brekuso to Ketaasi, and drivers say the condition worsens by the day.
“Three months ago, machines were brought in to work on the roads, but the work stopped abruptly. It feels like it was just for show ahead of the elections,” another driver remarked.
The bad roads, riddled with potholes, pose serious risks to both drivers and passengers.
“When we try to avoid the potholes, we sometimes hit each other’s cars. Some people have even parked their cars at home because the roads are destroying their vehicles,” they added.
The drivers are therefore calling on the government to fix the roads properly and stop the temporary patchwork that fails to last.
