Ghanaian Gospel musician Diana Hamilton has shared her perspective on the importance of authenticity in Gospel music, stressing that both the message and the messenger must align.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Diana Hamilton emphasized that the person singing a Gospel song cannot be separated from the lyrics of the song. She said, “With Gospel, the message and messenger have to be in sync.”
She also addressed the trend of secular musicians transitioning to gospel music, stating the need for genuine faith and conviction in the process. When asked if she had ever collaborated with secular artistes on songwriting, Diana replied in the negative.
“No, I haven’t been faced with that. God has gifted me with songwriting, and when you bring me a song, it has to sit well with me. It has to really hit me for me to say that these are matured Christians,” she explained.
This comes amid conversations surrounding Telecel Ghana Music Awards’ decision to make its gospel categories exclusive to mainstream gospel musicians. Diana noted that, in religion, people often feel the need to protect their territories.
Diana Hamilton also shared insights into her unique approach to songwriting, revealing that she draws inspiration from her own life experiences. “God gives me those lines that I can fall back on another time,” she said.
Looking ahead, Diana Hamilton is preparing for the Awake Experience 2025, set to take place at the ICGC Christ Temple on February 16, 2025, at 4 pm. Tickets are priced at GHS 250 for double, GHS 500 for a family of five, and GHS 120 for regular admission.
Other gospel ministers performing at the event include Kwaku Tei, Team Eternity, and Kofi Owusu Preprah. Similar events are also scheduled for Kumasi and Sunyani.
