Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, says that the removal of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government would bring immense relief to Ghana.
According to him, the ordinary Ghanaian is hardworking and is seeking a government to create an enabling environment to prosper.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on July 18, he alleged that successful businessmen have seen their businesses suffer under the ruling party.
“Businessmen who are doing well, because Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointees who are in private businesses feel threatened, they find a way to collapse their businesses. All of these people are fasting and praying, they can’t wait to see these people taken out of power.”
“Today, the average government worker can no longer take care of their family. Today, they cannot feed their children. Today, they can’t pay bills because of the high cost of living and, the high cost of consumables. Let’s take food, people cannot buy food.”
According to Mr Gbande, the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative introduced by the NPP was a “Ponzi scheme”.
“In a country like Ghana, we have an abundance of land, only for the government to institute a ponzi criminal scheme called planting for food and jobs where they put Afriyie Akoto. It was a Ponzi scheme for them to loot and share and they have done so.”
“They have taken money for it. They have taken loans for it. Where are the food crops? Where did they plant the food? In the last seven and half years, the NPP has failed to account for the people of Ghana. What happened to the money they collected? Even the poor people, farmers, they have defrauded them, led by President Akufo-Addo.”
Mr Gbande also criticised the “One District, One Factory” programme, describing it as a deception aimed at granting tax waivers to foreign companies rather than promoting local entrepreneurship.
“All the companies they have given tax waiver, mention the number of Ghanaian companies in it. You are giving and giving foreign companies we didn’t establish under what they call one district, one factory,” he said.
