US gymnast Simone Biles completed her comeback story on Thursday, winning Olympic gold in the individual all-around.
Biles won the event in 2016 but did not defend her title five years later at the Tokyo Olympics. She withdrew after a shocking case of the “twisties,” a mental block where gymnasts lose track of their positioning midair.
But she has been her dominant self once again in Paris. She also helped the United States win gold in the team competition on Tuesday.
Biles now has six Olympic gold medals and nine medals in all. No American gymnast has won more. She will have a chance to add to that record haul later in Paris when she competes in the finals of the vault, balance beam and floor exercise.
